Fun and Easy Party Games
Easily the best way to keep the kiddies entertained at a birthday party is to have a few games pre-organised and this is where I can help.
- Balloon Dancing. You will need: blown up balloons and music.
The children will get into pairs and clamp a balloon between their tummines. When the music begins they start dancing. The idea is not to drop the balloon. The pairs can even try to get the other dancers to drop their balloons but not with their hands! The longest standing dancing pair are the winners.
- Whos that Doggie
You will need: a blindfold
One child stands in the centre with a blindfold covering their eyes. All the other children form a circle around. Now the child in the centre point to someone and says 'you are now my dog!' The 'dog' then begins to bark and the child will guess which of its friends it is. If they guess correctly then they remove the blindfold and its the 'dogs' turn in the centre.
If they are wrong they can ask their 'dog' to bark again. They are allowed three attempts and if they still can't get it then they point to another friend and turn them into something different. (eg, police car, tiger). This games becomes more fun as the children use their imaginations.
- Potato Duel
You will need: two potato's and 4 tablespoons (per two children)
Two children stand facing each other, one metre apart. Both children hold a spoon in the left hand and a spoon balancing a potato in the other. The duel begins with the word 'go'. Both fighters have to try to knock their opponents potato off the spoon whilst at the same time protecting their own potato. Whoever drops their potato three times is the loser. The winner then chooses a new opponent.
- Whos Laughing
You will need: a stopwatch.
In this game you have to try to stay serious and not laugh. Its not easy when your friends are asking you questions that you have to answer exactly the same sentence every time and with a straight face. Together you have to decide the sentence before starting each round, or the adult can have prepared sentences that the children can pick from a hat. For example it could be 'yucky green slime', when somebody asks you what you had for dinner it can be pretty hard to not giggle. Keep an eye on the stopwatch, who manages to stay serious for the longest is the winner.
-Island Hopping
You will need: Newspaper and music
For this game, you need to cut out different sizes of newspaper pages and place them randomly on the floor but close enough that you can jump between them. All of the children then stand on these Islands. When the adult turns on the music you all jump from your island onto the next one and so on and so on. The child will decide which direction they want to go. The adult makes sure that nobody lingers on a island for too long. When the music stops everybody stays where they are. The adults removes one of the islands and starts the music again.
Now it will be more difficult and as the game goes on, even more difficult. Whoever can't jump from one island to another and 'falls in the water' is out. More than one child can stand on an island at the same time. However the more squashed you are the more likely you are to fall in the water. The games ends when there is two Island hoppers left.
Stay tuned for more fun party ideas here.
